Alice in Wonderland
Categories: Fashion, Graphix, TV / Film

Unless you’ve been hiding in a cave lately, nearly everyone has heard of and was eagerly awaiting the release of the hotly anticipated remake of  lewis carrol’s classic, Alice in Wonderland, by Tim Burton. The genius who also directed films such as Edward Scissor Hands, Planet of the Apes, Charlie and Chocolate Factory, and more recently Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

The film itself is in a way it is like an epilogue to the first Alice film, but set sometime after those events. Naturally Tim Burton keeps things interesting, while still PG rated, but the film is set with a dark undertone. The Mad Hatter is always on the brink of murderous insanity, and Alice has to calm him down for him to return to ‘normal’, and then there is the prediction that she is the only one who can slay the Jabberywocky, and let the White Quen regain her crown from the Red Queen. Helen Bonham Carter makes a character who has a head larger than her body seem believable, throwing temper tantrums like a toddler, only to behead her subjects.

The talented Johnny Depp brings the quirky Mad Hatter to life, also making us feel empathy for him. He is always trying to please his Queen, yet frequently nearly loses it due to anxiety.

Overall a very enjoybale film that both kids and adults will both like. Another bonus is all the Alice inspired fashion that is available at the moment. Disney Couture have created lots of gorgeous Alice in Wondlerland trinkets.  However, since I went to Hong Kong last month for a couple of weeks, nearly all the jewellery over there is inspired by this film, and there is just so much more choice and unique pieces to choose from, with something to suit every budget. I have bought some of these things, like rabbit pendants and rabbit and diamond stud earrings, tea cup rings, and a hat and shoe studs.

  1. I really wasn’t a fan of this film.. I fell asleep while it was on lol. As soon as Alice fell down into that hole, the film lost all it’s appeal.
